ABSTRACT
This family case study is on a 27 years old girl
suffering from diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a disease that occurs as
a result of malfunctioning of pancreas or damage of the body’s ability to metabolize
carbohydrates, protein and fat because of either little or no production of
insulin. There are two types of diabetes mellitus, type 1 and type 2. Some
early signs and symptoms are excessive thirst, frequent urination, excess loss
of weight, etc. The patient was managed according to the JCHEW National
Standing Order and was referred to General Hospital, Warri for further
treatment. Upon her discharged, home visits were carried out and during the
home visit, health education was given on the need for proper compliance with
treatment advice. During the period of this study, the patient showed
remarkable improvement and every member of the family were very happy at the
progress made during the course of treatment.
