The International Growth Centre
(IGC) is currently recruiting Country
Economists
 in
several of our country offices, including Rwanda.
The
International Growth Centre is a joint venture of the London School of
Economics and the University of Oxford, f

unded by the UK’s Department for
International Development (DfID). We provide demand-driven policy analysis
to developing country governments based on independent, world class, and
frontier research, to enhance economic growth. Our services are free at
point of use for the governments with which we work.

Our
research is led by world class academics (mostly economists) from around the
world. In Rwanda, ‘Country Economists’ are theIGC representatives ‘on
the ground’. They play a crucial role working with the Country Leadership Team
to implement the country strategy, with a particular emphasis on working with
the government to identify and develop opportunities for demand-driven research
and policy influence, and connecting researchers with policy makers and local
knowledge. Country Economists also facilitate research projects (they may at
times, according to their skills and the opportunities that
arise, author or co-author research); manage country programme activities
including country visits, events, and internal evaluation; and support the
dissemination of research outputs to maximise policy impact.

IGC Rwanda are looking for an economist with an excellent understanding of
macroeconomics, trade, industrial organisation, public finance, and micro
theory, as well as strong technical skills in research and data analysis
(fluency in STATA is essential). The candidate should also have
exceptional written and oral communication skills, be proactive and
organised under pressure, and be able to work successfully both as part of a
team and independently. Ideally the applicant should be experienced working
with high-level government officials (Ministers and PSs). Applicants must hold a post-graduate
degree (MSc/MPA/MPP) in economics, development economics, public
policy/administration, or a related discipline.

To apply for this position, please carefully follow the instructions
on the IGC and LSE’s job site, here: http://www.theigc.org/jobs.
When submitting your CV, please be sure to emphasise where you have
demonstrated the skills described above. Please DO NOT APPLY FOR THE COUNTRY
ECONOMIST POSITION VIA EMAIL.

The Country Economist position
described above is a full-time,
long-term, contract, beginning in August or September
.

The IGC Rwanda is also looking to hire a short-term Consultantfrom approximately July-September 2014. This
consultant would support the IGC Rwanda until the new Country Economist begins
work, and thus would have similar responsibilities and requirements as those
described above. If you are interested in this short-term position, and are
qualified as described, please send a CV and short covering letter to Rwanda@theigc.org.We
look forward to your application.
