Chance for Childhood is looking t
o
recruit a Speech and Language Therapist with at least one year post
qualification experience to support our inspiring team in Rwanda to deliver
strategies to enhance inclusive education in the Northern Province. The
candidate will have energy, self-motivation and must be willing to travel
independently to Rwanda. This is an ideal placement for a skilled Speech and
Language Therapist looking to gain experience and insight in working with
children in challenging environments and with limited resources. Travel
expenses and living allowances will be paid.
Job Purpose
To play a key role in the “Empowerment, Equality and
Education in Northern Rwanda” Programme, funded by Comic Relief,
delivered byFCYF in partnership with Chance for Childhood. This
community based programme has four main objectives:

- To empower and enhance the capacity of the
Rwandan government to deliver high quality education interventions to
children with special learning needs
- To provide communication methods and transitional
education to children and young people with mild to severe hearing
impairments and communication disorders and children with other special
learning needs in the Musanze district of Northern Rwanda in order to
equip them fully for mainstream education and functional integration into
their communities
- Create an environment which would enable children
with disabilities in three districts of Musanze, Gakenke and Burera,
Northern Rwanda to claim an equal place in society and to build a positive
future, free from social stigma through advocacy, outreach, and community
events
- To enable FCYF to establish a cadre of specialist
staff to support state and non-state actors to deliver high quality
special education interventions to support children and young people in
the Northern and Western Provinces of Rwanda by providing examples of best
practice, advice and training. Please see attached document for full
