The Clinton
Development Initiative (CDI) develops and operates agribusiness projects that
empower smallholder farmers to increase their economic potential. In Malawi,
Tanzania, and Rwanda, CDI integrates commercial farms and other agribusinesses
with smallholder outreach to increase smallholder farmers’ access to local
markets and enable them to participate equitably in those markets. CDI’s modeI
puts farmers first by increasing their access to knowledge, inputs, services,
and markets to improve their crop yields and increase and diversify their
incomes. CDI works in close collaboration with governments, nongovernmental
organizations, social investors, and farmer organizations.

Title: Agronomist/Field officer
Reporting Unit: Field Coordinator
Location: Based in Rwamagana and Nyagatare in the Eastern Province
Travel: The job involves constant field travel to remote communities in project
areas by motorbike. Some communities may be resistant to change and the field
officer must be skilled at persuasion, negotiation, and developing
relationships. The incumbent should be willing to work at odd hours,
particularly during seasonal peak periods.  Occasionally, the incumbent
may work long hours without time to rest or take a lunch hour.
The Clinton
Foundation will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with

and mental health provisions, including availability of a health care structure
in the international area of travel, may be drastically different from what the
employee is accustomed to, and the Foundation does not offer any health care

The primary
purpose of this position is:
The Field
Officer is the key frontline staff for CDI projects. The Field Officer is the
main link between CDI and local communities, facilitates formation of farmer
organizations, promotes community development and provides detailed training on
best practice agronomy (targeting soya beans, maize and beans). He/she will
also promote value-addition activities, market information, health care and
nutrition education, as well as gender issues and climate change. The Field
Officer is responsible for collecting monitoring data and feedback from
farmers, other stakeholders and partners.
If successful,
the Field Officer will contribute to the development of the farming community
by helping farmers increase crop and livestock productivity, household incomes
and food security, and health and nutritional status. By increasing the number
of participating farmers, the Field Officer will also scale up CDI’s
programming and contribute national food security.
Required Skills
& Experience:
Education
At least a
certificate in agricultural sciences, community/rural development,
cooperative/association management, or project management.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3
years’ experience in training farmers on improved agricultural technologies and
supervision of farmer cooperatives and associations, including at least two
years of work in rural areas.

strong numerical skills (ability to run basic financial and economic analysis
e.g. gross margin analysis, fertilizer calibration, determination of plant
population, etc.);
● Fluent in
Kinyarwanda, with good comment in English to participate in meeting and
communicate with supervisors.
ADDITIONAL
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED OR DESIRED:
● Professional
certification/training and short courses attended in accounting, participatory
extension methodologies, mainstreaming of gender, climate change and HIV/AIDs.
● Motorbike
riding training and possesses a clean driving license
