AVSI started working in Rwanda since
1994, focusing on the emergency response before shifting later on to long-term
development programs. Currently, AVSI is implementing HOPE program (Holistic
Response for Rwandan Children/Family Promotion) aiming to improve living
conditions and protection of orphans and vulnerable children in their families
and communities.

AVSI’s approach in Rwanda is based on
the priorities defined in the EDPRS II (2013-2018) in the Thematic areas (2)
Rural Development (priorities 2 and 3) and (3) Productivity and youth
employment (priorities 1 and 3); the Foundational issues related to food
security and nutrition and literacy, ECD and Basic Education, and finally, and
Environment and Climate, Gender and Family and Social Inclusion for Cross
cutting issues. Three technical strategic sectors are: socio-educational,
family economic empowerment, child protection&fight against Gender Based Violence.

Social workers (SW) work with
vulnerable children and youth. Their role is to monitor and provide
adequate support SW is responsible for the achievement of DSP (SAD) project
objectives and asses and analyze the needs of beneficiaries in order to design
intervention plans that may answer to the identified needs. (Each plan is
carried out in coordination with DSP Project Manager) Lastly each SW is
accountable for providing on due time the appropriate and complete Form/Report
documentationinformation for the donor as per DSP policy and procedure at
local and HQs level.

Specific Tasks and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- To
analyze and asses the needs of the child in hisher context according to
DSP procedure (forms and related tools) - Become
familiar with children enrolled in the Distance Support Programme and
suggest/develop interventions to address their needs - To
liaise with schools, parishes, educational centres, health centers to
respond in an integrated way to the children’s needs - To
visit each child at least twice per year, in his/her home and at school - To
adhere to the project requirements in organizing activities related to the
children and hisher family and community - Where
existing, to follow up the parents’ groups established to enhance economic
empowerment of the families of supported children. - Handling
of cash and making payments to the beneficiaries - To
organize and carry out distributions of items for selected children where
provided by the project - To
liaise with DSP Project Manager to follow-up individual cases referred for
assistance. - To
act as liaison between the sponsor and the child through DSP local office
and DSP HQs. - To
keep an updated dossier for each child in hard and where possible in soft
copy. - To
submit regular reports (written and verbal) concerning ongoing
activities to the DSP Project Manager - To
compile forms and reports about the children for both internal use and
external use
- To
participate in all training programs indicated by DSP Project Manager
- To
undertake any other duties assigned by the DSP Project Manager in relation
to the Project objectives and goals
Please note in case the SW is
responsible for a DSP Partner same tasks must be carried out for each child at
the care of the partner. It should be done in conformity with the signed
agreement with the partner.

Minimum Requirements
ü Education
High School Diploma
ü Experience
1 year experience working with
vulnerable youth in any of the following role:

people leaving in hard socio-economic and cultural condition (poverty, lack of

Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor
or Diploma in Social Science, Counseling, or Cooperation and
Development - At
least one year experience working with a NGO addressing issue of
vulnerable youth - Knowledge
of the National School System - Aware
of the health system of the country and national health
problemschallenges - Understanding
of the main development problems in the poorest area of the country - Personal
attitude as above
