  1. Aquaculture
    and Fisheries Technician (1 position)

Job
Requirements
A0
in Animal Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Aquaculture or Veterinary sciences with
Knowledge of Rwanda Livestock sector; Knowledge of principles and practices of
fish management; knowledge of fish and related aquatic organisms; Knowledge of
collection and care of aquatic biological specimens; Knowledge of the
procedures and practices utilized in the identification and classification of fish,
aquatic plants, and fish food; computer skills.. Fluent in Kinyarwanda, English
and/or French, Knowledge of both is an advantage.
Responsibilities
  • Report
    to the Director of animal resources in the zone;
  • Identifying
    and updating capacity development needs for aquaculture and fisheries
    extension in the zone;
  • Participate
    in the formation of policies, regulations and incentives schemes for
    promoting aquaculture and fisheries development at the zonal level;
  • Participate
    in the development competitive project for collaborative R4D that respond
    to national challenges and opportunities in the aquaculture and fisheries
    sector;
  • Liaising
    with the fisheries and Aquaculture farmer organization, local government
    and NGOs in attractive private sector investments in aquaculture and
    capture fisheries at zone level;
  • Collaborating
    with the fisheries organizations in implementing research and development
    efforts for sustainable in the zone;
  • Provide
    support in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, impact
    assessment and reporting on investments in aquaculture and environment at
    the zonal level;
  • Perform
    other duties assigned by other competent authorities.
  1. Crop
    Protection Technician (1 position)

Requirements
A1/AO
in Entomology/ Plant Pathology / Plant protection. With Key Technical Skills
& Knowledge required: Knowledge in Pest exclusion/ prevention; Knowledge in
Pest detection/ Early Warning/Surveillance; Knowledge in Emergency preparedness
and response; knowledge in Pest management programs; Extensive knowledge of
production and processing; knowledge of Agriculture practices, Deep knowledge
in Agriculture development agenda; knowledge in handling crop protection such
as spraying, pesticides and weed killers; problem solving skills; computer
skills; judgment & Decision making skills; Time management skills;
Team-working skills; Fluent in Kinyarwanda, English and /or French; Knowledge
of all is an advantage.
Responsibilities
  • Report
    to the Director of Agriculture Extension;
  • Provide
    leadership for the identification, assessment, planning, implementation,
    monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment and reporting processes of crop
    pests and diseases prevention and management initiatives;
  • Identify
    and prioritize researchable problems and according prepares a proposal to
    undertake the study.
  • Development
    and dissemination of technology for effective control of the outbreaks of
    pests and disease of major crops.
  • Coordinate
    and manage strategies leading to progressive reduction of pest and
    diseases incidences and subsequent eradication;
  • Create
    awareness on safe use and handling of pesticides, as well as effective use
    of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Providing
    technical subject matter assistance to zonal and district staff in crop
    protection strategies;
  • Sensitive
    zonal SMS on the integrated pest and disease control methods.
  • Coordinate
    the sensitization, awareness creation and capacity building of the farmers
    on the pests and disease control measures and on chemicals application
    techniques for the effective control;
  • Develop
    and implement a capacity building plan for all extension agents on
    management of pests;
  • Production
    and dissemination of awareness creation and sensitization crop protection
    materials (posters and fliers);
  • Coordinate
    the implementing of the national crop protection strategy in line with the
    following themes;

    microbial contamination from consumption of livestock products from Rwanda
  • Publicizing
    risk levels to drug residues and microbial contamination as a means of
    promoting regional and international market access for Rwandan livestock
    products.
  • Continuously
    monitoring the impact livestock production on environmental pollution,
    enteric emission, climate change and livelihood.

Job
Requirements
Bachelor
degree in biotechnology, microbiology, plant pathology or plant protection;
chemistry or biochemistry with 3 years of working experience in a laboratory of
plant Pathology/ plant tissue culture/ analytical chemistry/ Microbiology /
Bio-fertilizer or Bio-control/ or Master’s Degree in above mentioned field with
at least one year of working experience in highlighted field; Excellent skills
in general laboratory management; Time management skills in order to work on
several different projects at such laboratories as above; Demonstrated planning
and analytical skills; Good command of English or French ; knowing both would
be an added advantage.
Responsibilities
  • Implementing
    laboratory protocols to produce reliable and accurate data to support
    scientific investigations;
  • Participating
    in data collection, analysis, interpretation and timely reporting of research
    results;
  • Ensure
    quality of the standard operating procedures in a laboratory, including
    safety;
  • Demonstrating
    the practices or procedures or research being carried out in that
    laboratory to students and visitors;
  • Assisting
    researchers in their regular research activities in the laboratory.
  • Training
    students, interns and new scientists on laboratory techniques and
    practices;
  • Filling
    and keeping daily laboratory records;
  • Maintaining
    and calibrating laboratory equipment;
  • promptly
    reporting unusual observations within laboratory;
  • Providing
    monthly written technical reports.
