The
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) – a member of the CGIAR
Consortium (www.cgiar.org) – develops technologies,
innovative methods, and new knowledge that better enable farmers, especially
smallholders, to make agriculture competitive and profitable as well as
sustainable and resilient. CIAT conducts research for development in

tropical
regions of Latin America, Africa, and Asia (www.ciat.cgiar.org).

The
Position:
CIAT
is seeking to recruit a self-motivated Project Assistant to provide
project administration support to The Rwanda
Climate
Services for Agriculture Project in Rwanda.
Main
duties and responsibilities include:
  • Provide
    administrative support to the implementation of the Climate Services for
    Agriculture Project
  • Assist
    with the scheduling and coordination of activities related to the
    objectives of Climate Services for Agriculture Project, including
    workshops and training.
  • Assist
    in the preparation of all reports of the project and management of project
    data and information as required
  • Assume
    responsibility for other project administrative functions such as planning
    project meetings, drafting letters/reports, scheduling appointments and
    coordinating travel arrangements.
  • Assist
    the Project Coordinator with the administrative duties that fall within
    the project, including maintaining a calendar of the Coordinator of the
    Climate Services for Agriculture Project.
Required
competencies, skills and experience:
  • Bachelor’s
    degree in Agricultural or Environmental Science or related sciences
  • At
    least three (3) years of relevant work experience in a closely related
    field gained in an international organization with good knowledge of
    operational and administrative procedures related to project’s
    implementation
  • Working
    knowledge of Rwanda’s smallholder farmers
  • Proficiency
    in the use of spread sheets, word processing, MS office applications, and
    ability to learn new applicationsquickly
  • Good
    interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective
    partnerships and working relationships with multiple agencies as well as
    with smallholder farmers
  • Excellent
    analytical and problem solving skills; and highly developed written and
    oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated
    ability to apply good judgment in prioritizing assignments
  • Effective
    time management and organizational skills
Terms
of employment:
This
is a national position and will be for an initial period of one (1) year,
renewable subject to three (3) months’ probation, assessment of performance,
