Overview:

support the Rwanda public health system in three rural districts, and create
service delivery models that can influence national policy and scale-up.

The IMB Director of Pediatrics is
responsible for the development, management, and execution of all pediatric
activities at IMB. These areas include: newborn health, specialized neonatal
care for sick and small infants, early childhood development, child and
adolescent health, and malnutrition services at rural health centers and
district hospitals in PIH-supported districts. The Director will work closely
with the Rwanda Ministry of Health at all system levels to develop innovative
solutions to key care delivery gaps, monitor and evaluate the impact of these
services, and support national policy and scale-up for successful interventions
in line with national strategies.

The ideal candidate will be trained
in Pediatrics with some subspecialty training for infectious diseases, will
have experience conducting research and will have extensive experience
working in East Africa. Academic rank as Instructor or Assistant Professor
(full-time or part-time) at Harvard Medical School will be commensurate
with experience, training and academic achievements.

Specific responsibilities:
Program Management:
- Development
of strategic vision for Child and Newborn Health Program including
identifying emerging quality and service delivery gaps and rigorous intervention
design to address needs.
- Management
of pediatric program workplan and budget execution in collaboration with
IMB and MOH district leadership.
- Supervision
and mentorship of program team.
- Coordination
with IMB programs working along the maternal newborn child health spectrum
and supporting programs including training and research.
- Coordination
with Boston-based PIH programs including Clinical Program leadership,
Monitoring/Evaluation and Quality, and Development.
- Coordination
with IMB district team in the design and implementation of district
interventions.
Technical (clinical, quality
improvement, and operational research):

- Technical
review and support for national standards and development of new clinical
guidelines as requested by MOH
- Clinical
support for pediatric and neonatal patients at hospitals and health
centers to support high quality care for children at all PIH-supported
sites
- Rigorous
design of public health interventions in pediatric care as needs arise
- Development
and management of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and operational
research platforms for key interventions
Teaching and Mentorship:
- Teaching
and training in key newborn and child health protocols for health care providers
(specialists, general practitioners, and nurses)
- Mentorship
of program team members in clinical care, quality improvement activities
and operational research projects
- Investigation,
dissemination of knowledge and best practices, and capacity strengthening
and training of local researchers.
- Supervision
and mentorship of trainees from partner institutions including Harvard
Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boston Children’s
Hospital
Policy and Partners:
- Manage
partnerships with MOH and key partners at district and national level,
participation in relevant technical working groups for dissemination,
coordination and alignment with and advising of national strategies
- Technical
support to MOH/RBC in scaling up innovative approaches to care.
- Leverage
partnerships with key academic institutions to support high quality care
delivery and innovation locally
- Participation
in international conferences, meetings, and policy advocacy for
bidirectional information sharing
- Support
IMB in identification, development, and execution of grant opportunities
in pediatrics
Qualifications:
- Medical
doctor with pediatric specialty training with at least 5 years of global
public health experience (clinical, program design and development and
team management)
- Masters-level
degree in health related field (public health or research-related field)

- Technical
expertise in pediatrics, neonatology, nutrition, early childhood
development, adolescent health, quality improvement/improvement science,
monitoring and evaluation, teaching/training, and operational research
- Significant
knowledge and understanding of the field of Maternal, Neonatal, and Child
Health globally, including international policy and research
- Exceptional
written and oral communication skills with experience in working in
diverse professional contexts
- Demonstrated
ability to manage and prioritize projects with attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work well with
culturally diverse team and exhibit high diplomacy and interrelation
skills
- Ability
to live and work in a rural African setting
- Fluency
in English is required; French and Kinyarwanda are preferred
