Edo Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), claims that two hectares of cannabis farms in the state have been uncovered and destroyed.
Buba Wakawa, the Agency’s State Commander, announced this on Wednesday to journalists in Benin.
Mr Wakawa said the farms are estimated to produce 248,088 kilograms of cannabis crops in Ovia North East and Etsako West Local government areas.
He also said the command confiscated 452.36 kg of substance suspected of being cannabis, as well as tablets for Tramadol and Diazepam.
According to him, the achievements have been recorded in the last one month.
He further stated that there would be charges against at least 11 suspected drug traffickers, including five men and six women apprehended within the period.
He said the suspects were in possession of the crime of drug trafficking in their numerous statements to make money.
The commander lamented that the problem of drug abuse was a major challenge for families in the state.
“Most youths who are hooked on drugs have become openly disobedient to parents, dropping out of school and work, and becoming liabilities to their parents.
“Some even engage in stealing, armed robbery, cultism and other criminal activities,” he said.
