Why Egypt is pushing to strengthening parliamentary cooperation with Rwanda

The Egyptian Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Aly Abdel Aal, said on Wednesday that his country is keen to strengthen parliamentary cooperation with Rwanda. Dr. Aly Abdel, who arrived in Kigali late Tuesday on a four-day working visit, made the remarks when he met the Rwandan Parliament Speaker, Donatille Mukabalisa, before making a courtesy call to the Senate President

The talks are aimed at strengthening collaboration between Egypt’s parliament and Rwanda’s parliament, he said.

“The  Egyptian parliament will pay special attention to further developing  traditional friendly relations between our two countries,” said Dr Aly  Abdel.

In an effort to expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the Rwandan parliament extended its invitation to the President of the Egyptian House of Representatives to take part in the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly, a high-level meeting due to be held in 2020.

Both Rwanda and Egypt are members of the Common Market and Southern Africa (COMESA) trade bloc.

Furthermore, Rwanda and Egypt are both members of the 10-country Nile Basin Initiative.
