Olatunji and Sule-Odu (2007) described infertility
as diminished or absent of the ability to conceive, well as being unable to
carry a pregnancy to full term and bear offspring. A couple is considered to be
experiencing infertility if conception has not occurred after 12 months of
sexual activity without the use of contraception. Infertility can have many
causes and may be related to factors in the male, female, or both.

Forti and
Krausz (2008) defined infertility as the failure of a sexually active couple to
conceive a pregnancy after trying to do so for at least one full year. They
further classified infertility into primary and secondary infertility. In
primary infertility, pregnancy has never occurred while in secondary
infertility, one or both members of the couple have previously conceived, but
are unable to conceive again after a full year of trying to do so.
