Prevention and Control of Whooping Cough

General immunization of all susceptible pre-school children is an
effective procedure for the control of pertusis

·        
Educational measures to inform the public and particularly parents of
infants of the dangers of pertusis and of the advantages of immunization
·        
Isolation of the patient for the recognized period of communicability
·        
Concurrent disinfection of the discharges from the nose and throat and
articles soiled by the discharges.
·        
Terminal disinfection through cleaning   
·        
Investigation of contacts and sources of infection
·        
Prophylactic [preventive] oral antibodies should be given to anyone who
leaves in the same household with someone infected with pertusis.
