Large intestine

The large intestine is
about 15 meters long, starting from the caecum and terminate at the rectum and
anal canal deep in the pelvis. The blood supply to the large intestine is the
superior and inferior mesenteric arteries, the contents of the ileum which pass
through the ileocaecal valve into the caecum are fluid. In the large intestine
absorption of water by osmosis continues until the familiar semisolid
consistency of faeces is achieved. Drugs mineral salts, vitamins are also
absorbed into the blood capillaries in the large intestine.
