Occupational Accident in Industries

According
to Oghenevwoke (2012), an accident is an unplanned, unintended or sudden event
which interrupts, breaks, alters or changes the planned order of an activity
and which may result in death, ill-health and damage to properties and the
environment. Many factors contribute to accidents “occurrence”, significant
losses and even bodily injuries can result following incident. These basic
factors are well understood, yet accidents continue to occur, property damage
accumulates, work schedule remain interrupted and injuries reduce personal
income.

Olojoba
(2009) states: According to the factory Act 1948: “occupational accidents are
an occurrence in an industrial establishment causing bodily injury to a person,
and make him unfit to resume his duties in the next 48 hours”.
Okafor
(1999), accident is an unexpected event in the course of employment which is
neither anticipated nor designs to occur. Thus, an accident is an unplanned and
uncontrolled event in which an action or reaction of an object, a substance, a
person or a radiation results in personal injury. It is important to note that
self-inflicted injuries cannot be regarded accidents.
An
industrial injury is defined as “a personal injury to an employee which has
been caused by an accident or an occupational disease and which arises out of
or in the course of employment and could entitle such employee to compensation
under worker’s compensation Act, 1923.
All
