Types of Occupational/Industrial Accident

Accident
may be of different types depending on the severity, durability and degree of
the injury.
There
are two major types of accident which are:
·        
External accident
·        
Internal accident

External Accident: When an employee gets injury with external sign of
it, it is termed “external injury”.
Internal Accident: This is an accident involving injury without
showing signs externally such as a fractured bone is called an “internal
injury”.
The
various types of accident can be classified as:
1.    According to Length of Recovery:
i.            
First AID Accident: Here these workers involved receive first AID at
plant hospital and then return to the job.
ii.           
Lost Time Accidents: Here a worker loses a day or shift in which
accidents occur; compensation is given to the employee by employer for the
severity of the accident.
iii.          
Home-Case Accident: Here workers loses reminder of shifts or turn on
which the accident has occurred.
2.    According to the Nature of Injury
i.            
Fatal Accidents: It includes the accident that could result in the
death of the injured worker. Death may occur on the spot due to the unbearable
injury.
ii.           
Temporary Disablement: It includes the accidents that reduce the earning
capacity of an employee when he engages in the injury. But once he gets ok he
starts work again.
iii.          
Permanent Disablement: This is an accident that reduces completely the
earning capacity of an employee, the employee is disabled forever.
