projects, as needed. The position is based in Washington, DC and will include some international travel.
Responsibilities
• Serve as an in-house resource person on women’s political participation programs globally; work with NDI regional teams to conceptualize and design women’s legislative, civic, and political party programs;
• Develop program concepts and take part in strategic discussions; facilitate sharing of program strategies across regional teams;
• Work as team player within the women’s political participation team, providing advice on general women’s programs and supervising work by interns;
• Conduct research on a broad range of women’s political participation themes;
• Assist with event management and other public outreach efforts;
• Initiate and maintain relations with political partners;
• Maintain collaborative relationships with international democratic development organizations, civic organizations and NDI’s network of volunteer trainers and experts; act as back-up to team members not present;
• Draft or oversee drafting, of board memos, proposals, work plans, website text, quarterly and other reports with minimal substance guidance;
• Train and offer advice and guidance for NDI staff.
Experience Required
• Bachelor’s degree preferably in international relations , political science , public policy or gender studies; graduate degree preferred;
• Demonstrated coursework and/or internships in international development, political party development, community organizing, political campaigns, organizational development , legislative affairs, or equivalent experience at NDI;
• For the Senior Program Assistant a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required;
• Experience in women’s issues, gender equity, or related areas, particularly as they apply to international issues and/or politics;
• Experience living/working/traveling outside the US preferred;
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Foreign language skills a plus.
