The Regional Program Office of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Liberia is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland. SDC carries out international development cooperation activities and is responsible for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation. SDC’s programme in Liberia aims to help the country make the transition from recovery to development. It focuses on health,
nutrition, water and regional aspects. For the support of its new project which focuses on the physical rehabilitation of swamps’ irrigation systems in Lofa and Nimba Counties.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Manages and leads the site Planning Unit of the project;
• Contributes to the elaboration of feasibility studies for the rehabilitation of irrigation schemes and plans the involvement of Cash for Work (CfW) inputs;
• Prepares designs and lay-outs and elaborates cost and labor input estimates;
• Adapts standards for daily/weekly work norms for CfW activities based on experience emerging during project implementation;
• Establishes/maintains close contacts with partners providing CfW inputs and coordinates with line agencies and groups of beneficiaries;
• Prepares and conducts various trainings, and participates on training activities;
• Provides technical support to all cooperating partner organizations;
• Regularly controls work progress of CfW activities;
• Supports foreign advisors in better understanding of the local context;
• Assures application regulations and flows reporting procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENT:
• Master or Bachelor of Science in Irrigation or Agricultural Engineering or equivalent academic background;
• Minimum 5 years of work experience in hydraulic engineering, including practical knowhow in water application and scheme management;
• Very good capacities for designing and conducting training for farmers.
