Background
In
Liberia, Merlin began programming in 1997 in response to the emergency medical
needs of a population in crisis caused by conflict, with particular focus on
IDPs and refugees. Since 2003 and the end of the war, Merlin has responded to
the changing needs of the population from crisis to transition; including
rehabilitation of structures, revitalizing health services, the provision of
logistical and technical support to county health teams, and the training and
supervision of MOH&SW staff.

the implementation of various interventions towards addressing Sexual and
Reproductive Health, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent/Youth Health
issues. The pilot project is funded by UNFPA Liberia county office.

Responsibilities:
This
consultancy shall consist of the following activities which will be undertaken
within the specified timeframe:

- Review
of national SRH and MNCH policies and related BCC and health promotion
materials in Liberia and plan for drafting context specific training
material. - Meeting
with community members, County Health Team and other relevant stakeholders
for identifying and understanding key on SRH and MNCH issues adopting
ideas on interesting local characters for puppetry performance. - Draft
a context specific training material educational and interactive puppetry
performances (script writing/message development, various types of puppet
construction, puppet manipulation and stage performance), targeting Sexual
Reproductive Health (SRH) and Maternal and Newborn and Child Health (MNCH)
complications. - Train
20 preselected participants (adolescent/youth 15-24 years old) on puppetry
techniques (script development/message development, puppet construction
and manipulation and stage performance) particularly in SRH and MNCH to
prepare puppet troupes. - Educate
participants to translate developed script into dramas as well as radio
messages. - Assist
in preparing the list of the required materials for the puppet
construction, manipulation and awareness sessions.
Specific Outputs
- Context
friendly training material and at least three context specific puppetry
scripts on SRH and MNCH issues. - Construct
and produce various kinds of puppets and stage show materials for 20
participants. - Training
of participants on mentioned area and improved skills and knowledge of
participants in folk media techniques. - Detailed
consultancy report.

- Proven
track record of producing puppet shows for community based education in
resource limited environments. - Specific
experience of working and training communities particularly on behaviour
change communication and/or health awareness through folk media-puppet
approach - Excellent
written and verbal English communications skills - Workshop
facilitation experience including report writing skills - Excellent
communication, work-planning and time management skills. - Strong
communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English - Confident
and proficient in the use of MS Office - Experience
of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from
different functions and cultures - Experience
of a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and
multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines - Experience
