Chief Executive Job Vacancy in London

Employer: Saxton BampfyldeJob Function: Chief Executive Officer
Industry: Public, Creative
Position Type: Permanent

The Education Endowment Fund (EEF) is a major new initiative to boost the attainment of some of the country’s poorest children. Its entrepreneurial ”do tank” approach involves stimulating, developing and evaluating a wide range of bold and innovative projects to address educational disadvantage – with the ultimate aim of scaling-up what works and influencing education spending. Focussed initially on children eligible for free school meals in underperforming primary and secondary schools in England, the fund will run over 15 years and at its peak devote £15-20 million a year to projects, up to £200 million in total over the life of the programme. It has been funded with a £125m arm’s-length grant from the Department for Education, to be supplemented by investment income, fundraising and partnership working.

EEF is a separate registered charity, established by the Sutton Trust and supported by the Impetus Trust. The Board, comprising members from both Trusts and chaired by Sir Peter Lampl, is looking to appoint a strong and inspirational Chief Executive to lead the Fund’s work. This is an exciting opportunity with considerable scope to influence the future direction and shape of the Fund.

Candidates for this role will be excellent communicators, with an ability to build productive relationships across several sectors, with strong intellectual capacity and strategic thinking. In leading and managing a start up organisation, this person will be able to work effectively as part of a small team, whilst also having the authority to operate and contribute at senior levels in government, educational, not for profit and commercial environments. Experience in education or in philanthropy and fundraising is an advantage, but is not a prerequisite; a commitment to the Fund’s mission is essential.
