Global
Communities, a Non-Governmental Organization, is seeking an experienced
professional to fill the position of BCC Coordinator for the 5-year USAID
funded RING
project. RING (Resiliency in  Northern  Ghana)
is  a USAID  Feed  the  Future  (FtF) project 
designed  to  contribute  to  Government  of 
Ghana  (GoG) efforts  to  reduce  poverty  and 
improve  the  nutritional  status  of 
vulnerable  populations.
Specifically, 
RING  works  to  improve  the livelihood  and
nutritional  status  of  vulnerable  households 
in  17 target districts of Ghana’s Northern  Region. 
Consistent  with  USAID  Forward  principles  of 
direct  support  to  host  governments  to 
the  maximum extent  possible,  RING’s  interventions 
are  implemented  through  a  collaborative  approach
 with  the  District Assemblies  (DAs)  in  the
Northern  Region  and  with  the  Northern 
Region  Coordinating  Council  (NRCC).
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Based
    on RING interventions, design comprehensive integrated strategies to
    address priority barriers to behavior change; work with programs teams to
    develop clear creative briefs and budgets to design campaign elements.
  2. Work
    with the technical component leads to review RING interventions in
    agricultural livelihoods, WASH, health, nutrition and citizen engagement
    to identify areas where BCC approaches can improve  implementation
    outcomes.
  3. Provide
    training to agriculture extension agents, health volunteers, nutrition and
    environmental health officers on behavioral change communication tools,
    strategies and processes.
  4. With
    the guidance of the agriculture technical component lead, develop content
    for SBCC messaging targeted at RING communities and households.
  5. Identify
    local service providers for engagement to design and deliver BCC messages
    on agriculture/livelihoods, health, nutrition and WASH in target
    communities.
  6. Work
    with RING communication officer under the guidance of program team to
    incorporate BCC in all aspects of RING activity implementation
  7. Provide
    support to agriculture extension staff, health volunteers and
    environmental health personal to use SBCC strategies to deliver
    agriculture, health and nutrition messages to target beneficiaries
  8. Engage
    communities, local NGOs, CBOs, and the district stakeholders on BCC
    strategies for intervention planning, implementation, monitoring and
    evaluation
  9. Periodically
    review the BCC approaches with stakeholders and RING technical team for
    cross learning
  10. Manage
    USAID branding in the BCC aspect of the project as well as assist in
    effective communication concerning projects to the general public
  11. Help
    lead the BCC teams of NGO partners to develop high-quality evidence-based
    interventions that will produce measurable changes in the behavior of
    target populations, through the utilization of both mass media and
    interpersonal communications suited to the program environment.

Required
Skills or Experience
  • A
     master’s  degree  in  SBCC,  behavioral
     sciences,  Communication, Social Science and/or
     agriculture-related  behavior  change work and theories
  • Minimum
    of 7 years’ experience in social behavioral change programming in Ghana,
    preferably with specific experience in a US government-supported
    project(s).
  • Ability
     to  translate  technical  information  into
     practical  guidance  and  tools  and
     effectively  communicate  these  using
    print/electronic  media,  community  media,  and
     presentation  media
  • Minimum
    of 3 years’ experience supervising works of consultants/subcontractors and
    other BCC related agriculture livelihoods interventions
  • Proven
    experience in designing integrated strategies and campaigns, utilizing
    various channels of communication: radio, television, publishing,
    interactive media (radio, internet, email, post), peer education,
    community lead groups, mobile video units, faith-based and special
    interest NGOs. Must have experience with entire SBCC process from strategy
    design to creative brief to finished product, including formative and
    monitoring research design.
  • Experience
    in agricultural livelihoods, nutrition and WASH projects in Ghana
    preferably in the northern regions.
  • Ability
    to work with local authorities in Ghana and local NGOs especially at the
    district level.
GENERAL
REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong
    organizational, interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Ability
    to work in a team-oriented setting and to determine priorities and respect
    deadlines
  • Excellent
    oral and written communications skills in English language
  • High
    degree of computer literacy; MS Excel and MS Word are essential
  • Ability
    to travel extensively in the northern region and other locations in Ghana
    as required
  • Proficiency
    in at least one Northern region local dialect is a plus
  • Must
    be authorized to work in Ghana.
