Background / General description

The World Bank is looking for
drivers with valid driving licenses, excellent knowledge of the driving code,
qualifications in basic mechanics, five years of relevant experience as a
driver, excellent knowledge of Road Safety, good communication skills in
English Language, and knowledge of UN security procedures.

Drivers are members of the World
Bank Country Office Staff. They work as part of the country office drivers’
pool and will drive office vehicles for transport of authorized personnel
usually within Ghana but also in the surrounding countries (if the need arises)
as well as the delivery and collection of mails. They will report directly to
the Country Office Resource Management Officer for day to day assignment.

Note: If the selected candidate is a current
Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will
retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a
3 year term appointment.

Duties and
Accountabilities

Under supervision, they
will perform the following duties

  • Transport of authorized personnel to/from airports,
    meetings, appointments, and other official duties
  • Transport authorized personnel on business travel
    to/from locations throughout Ghana and surrounding countries (if and when
    the need arises)
  • Delivery and collection of mail, documents and other
    items.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and
    facilitating immigration and customs formalities

Responsible for
day-to-day maintenance of vehicles, checking oil, water, battery, brakes,
tires, etc.

  • Performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs.
  • Ensures that vehicles are kept clean at all times
  • Follow all steps required by the rules in case of
    accident
  • Logs all trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil
    changes, lubrications, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

  • Secondary school Education Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least 5 years driving experience, defensive driving
    skills being an advantage
  • Possess a valid driving License
  • Excellent knowledge of road safety
  • Good communication skills in both English and Portuguese
    (written and spoken), knowledge of one or two local languages and UN
    security procedures would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends
  • Committed team player with demonstrated inter-personal
    skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural/disciplinary
    environment and able to produce high quality work under pressure.
