The Advisor for Prevention research will provide high level scientific technical assistance in combination with select project management support for development, implementation, and evaluation of various prevention assessments, basic program evaluations, research studies and other implementation science (IS) activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Project management including continuous collaboration and follow-up with study partners to ensure deadlines are met and study implementation occurs in line with study timelines developed.
• Tracking of submission and approval process with US and Tanzania based approval boards.
• Assistance with training of data collectors, data entry and management staff where needed.
• Travel and support to study sites during periods of site preparation and data collection.
• Participation in bi-weekly prevention team meetings, relevant interagency technical meetings teams, meetings with Prevention supervisors and others as necessary.
• Close collaboration with Tanzanian prevention program staff to ensure continuous program involvement and formal/informal capacity building for staff involved.
• Strengthen efforts to build the capacity of staff on the project management aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention evaluation activities as well as communication with technical staff in Atlanta.
• Participation in the review of study protocols and tools in consultation as needed with the Senior Technical Advisor: Research and Implementation Science and/or Advisor: implementation Science to ensure adequate quality and scientific soundness.
• Participation in data analysis and assistance with interpretation of study findings and writing of study and in consultation as needed with the Senior Technical Advisor: Research and Implementation Science and/or Advisor: implementation Science to ensure adequate quality and scientific soundness.
• Participates in other tasks related to planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the organization’s Tanzania HIV/AIDS activities as requested by the HIV Prevention Program Chief and Directors.
• Conforms to operational practices and procedures already implemented by USG and the organization in Tanzania, and to be implemented in the future.
Key Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited university with a master’s level degree in public health, epidemiology, medical science or related field is required.
• At least three years of experience with progressive responsibility in project management of HIV prevention science activities, preferably in an international setting.
• At least three years of experience with operational or implementation science development, implementation and analysis, preferably in an international setting.
• At least two years of experience working with PEPFAR programs is desirable.
• Excellent time and project management skills.
• Level IV English proficiency required.
• Level I Kiswahili proficiency (preferred).
• Willingness and ability to effectively communicate in English (Speaking, Writing, and Reading) on a daily basis with various groups.
• Willingness and ability to work full-time and to be located in Tanzania strongly preferred.
