KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide professional technical support to ensure layouts and plans are delivered to Mine Management, Mining Department and other service departments in a timely manner.
• Provide supervision and training to Mining Engineers and other support staff in the area to ensure compliance with BGML’s policies and procedures.
• Provide advice and other duties and responsibilities as required by the Technical Services Superintendent.
• Develop and implement short to medium term plans ensuring budgeted targets are met and ensure these plans are delivered to the Mining Department in a timely manner.
• Help develop training programs and train Tanzanian engineers to develop new skills and achieve their full potential.
• Act as a liaison between planning and operations departments coordinating engineering efforts, ensuring that short term objectives are aligned with medium and long-term strategies to meet company objectives.
• Assist the Technical Services Superintendent to complete BGML’s performance management process to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour.
• Identify areas of Continuous Improvement.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• A degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution, or equivalent recognized qualification.
Experience Requirements:
• Five years underground mining experience including at least 3 years in a production environment, preferably in precious metals using narrow vein longhole stoping as well as cut and fill and narrow vein conventional mining.
• Experience with paste backfill systems and mine ventilation would be advantageous.
• Ability to execute project work, evaluate options and to write reports.
• Attention to detail and ability to deal with numbers.
• Exposure in development of short to medium term planning to align with life of Mine strategies utilizing Underground 3D mine design and scheduling software packages.
• Knowledge and proficiency in ore reserve estimation will be an added advantage.
• Thorough knowledge of Mine CAD (or similar CAD package), Mine2-4D planning software, EPS scheduling software or equivalent mine planning and scheduling software.
• Highly proficient in MS Office Suite.
