Position
Responsibilities:
The position will support FHI 360’s efforts to work with the Ministry of
Education and Ministry of Health and use two internationally tested and proven
tools: 1) the My Changing Body teacher-training curriculum (originally
developed by FHI 360 and the Georgetown University Institute for Reproductive
Health in 2003); and 2) the It’s All One Curriculum (developed by the
International Sexuality and HIV Curriculum Working Group), a comprehensive set
of practical activities designed to introduce key gender and RH concepts to
adolescents
in a culturally and age-appropriate manner that promotes critical
thinking. The position holder will specifically:
• Organize and conduct a training for teachers on ASRH using the My Changing
Body manual at the start of each school year and assist teachers in planning
and leading a series of student activities based on It’s All One Curriculum.
• Coordinate with the project schools’ administration staff and teachers to
hold annual introductory/informational sessions for parents about the course
and reassure them about its contents, given the sensitive nature of topics such
as ARH, sexuality and HIV.
• Work with schools in the preparation and sharing of information on curriculum
and activities with parents and encourage them to assist their children in
completing relevant ASRH assignments.
• Ascertain the linkage between ASRH and HIV, GBV, and adolescents’ future
options through community dialogues on these issues.
• Work with school officials to incorporate ASRH in after school education
program
• Train and build the capacities of healthcare providers (two per school
community) on the ASRH needs of adolescents and encourage them to provide
youth-friendly services.
• Act as a liaison to community groups including women’s associations and other
CBOs and encourage promotion of accurate information on ASRH at home, in school
and in the community.
• Work with community leaders and help organize information sessions and events
for the school communities using favoured local means such as drama, songs,
role play, poetry, etc.
• Coordinate with local/national radio programming to broadcast messages to the
broader community related to RH information, protection, prevention, linkage to
better and healthier life.
• Submit monthly reports on planned activities and achievements.
• Incorporate all ASRH activities into the project’s Work plan, M&E and
PMP.
• Represent FHI 360 at ASRH meetings, panels, discussions and conferences and
contribute blogs/success stories reflecting progress/impact to FHI 360’s
website.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in the field of public
health, behavioural/social sciences, gender, adolescent education or related
field.
• Demonstrated experience (minimum of 5 years) in working on education projects
with a focus on adolescent girls’ education/gender/health/social behavioural
change and ARH programs and activities.
• Experience planning and implementing adolescent related programs and/or
research in developing countries.
• Excellent English written and verbal communications skills.
• Experience and ability to work in gender sensitive communities.
