in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a Group Executive
which is based in the UK.
Job
Summary: The Programme Coordinator will support the
Country Directors in building sustainable and successful Country Programmes
through developing and also bridging the gap between different stakeholders
within SAC so that the whole of SAC is greater than the sum of its parts.

1. Developing the Country Programme:
- Technically
support the development of the Strategic Direction of the Country
Programme, and the Operational Plan, and ensure consistency with SAC
strategy - Develop and
implement jointly with the Country Director the Development Plan, to build
the capacity, capability, and quality required to deliver the strategy and
build the sustainability of the Country Programme - Support the
personal development of the Country Director. Develop with the Country
Director their Annual Review and Personal Development Plan for the
approval of the Director.
2. Ensuring Quality:
- Support the
delivery of the Operational Plan, to ensure consistency and quality - Work in liaison
with the Country Director to ensure that all Plans and Reports meet
required quality and deadlines - Work with the
Country Director and Group Finance team to ensure development of accurate
and realistic budgets and adherence to financial reporting standards - Encourage the
sharing of good practice within and across Country Programmes, and
encourage the use of specialist input as required - Provide input as
required into fundraising plans and delivery, alongside the Programme
Funding team - Ensure that
programme quality is maintained, and work with the Research and Impact
team to ensure that appropriate Programme Monitoring and Evaluation is
taking place
3. Communication:
- Act as a
champion and advocate for the Country Programme - Be the first
point of contact on behalf of the Country Programme for communications
from the UK, USA and elsewhere regarding requests for information, visits,
etc., and assist in the planning as appropriate - Support the
Country Director is up to speed with SAC developments, news, changes to
policies, etc.
4. General:
- In addition to
working with their designated Country Programmes, the Programme
Coordinator may also be involved in other development projects for
example, programmatic development, partnership development, or researching
potential new areas of operation. - As a senior
member of the SAC Group team, you will support the strategy of SAC and
undertake other tasks as required.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The candidate
should have five years’ experience in a senior position in a significant
sized local and/or international NGO - The applicants
should hold relevant Bachelor’s degrees. Possession of a Master’s degree
is an advantage - Significant
first-hand experience of international development, and particularly the
community development process - Past experience
of managing multiple stakeholders - Significant
experience of enabling positive change through influence rather than
direct control - Past fundraising
experience is desired - Experience of
living and working in a developing country - Past farming /
agricultural experience is an added advantage - Fluent spoken
and written English - Excellent
communication skills both written and verbal - Cross cultural
skills, including working remotely with teams separated by distance and
geography - Strong
interpersonal skills and the ability to work co-operatively and
collaboratively - Strong numeracy
and understanding of developing and managing budgets. - Networking and
representing skills - Coaching and
mentoring skills - Ability to
