seeks a Communications Director, Regional Team Leader and Grants &
Strategic Activities Fund (SAF) Assistant for the Feed the Future Uganda Youth
Leadership for Agriculture (YLA) Activity. The Five year (July 2015 – July
2020) Activity supports Ugandan partners, with youth in the lead, to identify
and promote sustainable, inclusive, and cost-effective approaches that put
youth


especially female youth squarely in the agriculture sector as leaders, farmers,
entrepreneurs, and employees. The purpose of this flagship activity is to
increase economic opportunities for approximately 350,000 Ugandan female and
male youth ages 10 to 35 in agriculture-related fields, in order to increase
their incomes and build their entrepreneurship, leadership, and workforce
readiness skills. Chemonics International seeks to recruit dynamic, inspired

Communication Director:
(1 position based in Kampala)
The Communications
Director is responsible for overall management of YLA’s communications
strategy, team, delivery of the Activity’s communications deliverables, and
responding to USAID requests as necessary. The Communications Director manages
and receives direct reports from the Graphics Arts Designer and the Technical
Writer. The position is based in Kampala and reports directly to the Chief of
Party.
Some of the key tasks
include:
  • Prepare
    weekly, quarterly and annual reports to USAID ensuring that all produced
    deliverables and technical reports comply with USAID and Feed the Future
    branding guidelines.
  • Provide
    guidance on the content, format, and deadlines for expected inputs from
    YLA colleagues. Consolidate, verify, edit, and format information prior to
    submission;
  • Develop
    press releases, feature articles, success stories, presentation materials
    and any other required communications materials in consultation with YLA
    technical staff;
  • Serve
    as editor-in-chief for all YLA contract deliverables, and ensure their
    timely submission to and acknowledged receipt from USAID;
  • Train
    and manage YLA’s communications staff in the development of appropriate
    content for reports, press releases, and any other activity communications
    materials as required;
  • Support
    USAID’s Collaboration, Learning and Adaptation (CLA) agenda by promoting
    the capture and sharing of lessons learned, new innovations and best
    practices and participating in periodic meetings with Feed the Future,
    other donors and government partners;
  • Oversee
    press coverage of Activity events and direct media relations as required;
    Perform any other communications tasks related to the objectives of the
    Activity as assigned by the Chief of Party.
This position will
require the following minimum qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor’s
    Degree
  • At
    least 5 years’ experience in a Communications role
  • Excellent
    working capabilities with MS Office
  • Good
    interpersonal skills, honesty, and commitment to excellence.
  • Ability
    to establish and maintain effective, sustainable relationships with
    Activity staff, USAID Mission personnel and the general development and
    business community
  • Experience
    with USAID and working in a multi-cultural environment is preferred
  • Strong
    organizational and work prioritization skills, attention to detail
  • Ability
    to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates
    leadership, versatility, and integrity
