Job Summary:
Ensuring that PK blood samples obtained in the ADAPT study are collected, processed, transported and stored in accordance with the approved study protocol and prescribed standard operating procedures and ICH-GCP standards and assisting with the processing of pharmacokinetic samples.
Other key qualifications and competences:
• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
• At least one year proven experience working in a clinical research laboratory with skills in performing serological assays.
• Possession of GCP and GCLP certificate.
• Evidence of registration with the Medical Council of Malawi
• Basic writing and computer skills (including MS Word, Access and Excel)
Key Responsibilities
Technical
• Assisting the Study Pharmacologist in developing and updating standard operating procedures (SoPs) for laboratory tests and procedures specified in the ADAPT study protocol.
• Handling and processing biological samples for storage and shipment, in accordance with prescribed standard operating procedures
• Providing on the job training for non-laboratory based project staff performing laboratory related procedures at the study clinics and wards
• Performing regular quality assurance activities for laboratory tests or laboratory procedures undertaken by non-laboratory based project staff in the study clinics and wards.
• Assisting in performing laboratory assays for measuring blood concentrations of drugs
• Assisting in managing the stocks of supplies and consumables for conducting PK Assays
• Assist in performing regular maintenance and trouble shooting of an HPLC machine and organizing re-calibration of the machine
Administrative
• Assisting the Clinical Trial Coordinator in identifying training needs for non-laboratory based project staff conducting laboratory tests and procedures in the study clinic or ward.
• Organizing regular maintenance and/or calibration of study lab equipment (situated in the clinic) and ensuring the operation of the equipment is in compliance with prescribed SoPs
• Organizing a robust database for biological samples stored at MLW and/or exported to collaborating institutions.
• Managing stock levels for laboratory reagents and supplies required in the ADAPT study.
• Preparing and submitting monthly reports to the Clinical Trial Coordinator
• Ordering and managing liquid nitrogen for use by MLW and ADAPT study
• In liaison with Clinical Trial Coordinator, review laboratory charges against samples sent to the laboratory for processing on a monthly basis
• In liaison with data manager, MLW Core laboratory technicians facilitate resolving of laboratory queries raised during monitoring visits.
• Planning and organizing samples for processing at other sites if service is unavailable at MLW core lab
