Job
Description:

The position is a full time internship, five days a week. The successful
candidate will be outgoing, confident, have a passion for international
development and in particular they should and be interested in the development
of Malawi. The areas of responsibility that the role will cover includes;
research for new funding opportunities within Malawi; writing funding proposals
and bids; improving M&E process and report writing; communications with key
stakeholders and donors; communicating with UK fundraising team and overseeing
the implementation of Temwa’s strategic plan.

The successful
candidate will report directly to the Programme Director in Malawi although
they will also be supported by Temwa’s Malawi Project Manager and the UK
Fundraising & Communications Coordinator.

Key Duties:

1) Fundraising
Research:

  • Communication
    with Malawi Director & Trustees on fundraising opportunities
  • Research
    of grants to be accessed in country
  • Follow
    up on leads passed on from Temwa Team

2) Communication
with UK Fundraising Team:

  • Liaising
    with UK office on data required from the team in country
  • Ensuring
    deadlines for reports are clear & reports are sent on time
  • Working
    with the team to ensure proposals are received on time
  • Keeping
    UK abreast of project developments
  • Working
    to develop ‘annual planning cycle’ for the organisation

3) Writing
Fundraising Applications:

  • Working
    with the team on the project design
  • Gathering
    relevant data from team in field
  • Working
    with relevant colleagues on proposal writing

4) Gather M&E
Data & Writing Reports:

  • Working
    with the team in the field to collate & analyse data
  • Communicating
    with relevant colleagues on reporting process needed
  • Working
    with relevant teams on report writing, report templates and donor
    communications

Implementation of
Strategic Plan:

  • Maintaining
    oversight of strategic plan implementation
  • Working
    with the team to ensure organisation remains on course to achieve key
    objectives within given time frame
  • Maintain
    and update organisation’s Route Map

Experience,
qualifications and requirements:

  • Experience
    of working or volunteering with NGOs or charities essential.
  • IT and
    word processing skills essential.
  • Experience
    of working on fundraising activities desirable.
  • Excellent
    written and communication skills essential.
  • Degree
    or MA in relevant field desirable.
  • Strong
    organisational skills desirable.
  • Must be
    a good team player.
  • Must be
    passionate about International Development.
  • Experience
    of M&E and report writing desirable

Temwa was registered
as a UK charity in December 2003 & has since been registered in Malawi with
CONGOMA (Council for NGO’s in Malawi) as well as with the Malawi Association of
Trustees. Temwa currently employs 34 full time members of staff in Malawi, with
a part time UK Director & Development Manager and full time Fundraiser the
UK office is supported by a team of part time interns and volunteers. 

We

small, dynamic and not always conventional organisation. As a rapidly growing
NGO, working as a key part of the Malawi team will give you a pivotal role in
the organisations on-going development. As the Communications Officer you will
have the opportunity to put your previous experience into great use, while
learning an array of new skills, you will directly see the benefit of the work
undertaken in the Malawi and how it supports the community on the ground.

The cost of your
flight will be covered and once in Malawi accommodation, transport & work
expenses will be covered and you will be given a basic living allowance to
cover the cost of food. You will be expected to cover your other living
expenses; the cost of living in Malawi is relatively low. These costs can be
discussed should you be successfully short listed for an interview.

This is an ideal
role for a recent graduate who is looking to get more experience in this
sector, the work experience will provide you with the knowledge & skills to
further your career, as well as giving you the opportunity to see first-hand
the positive effect that small NGO can have in a developing country.
