Position
Overview:
The Evidence to
Programs (E2P) Research Officer will help the EGPAF Malawi team to build
evidence and documentation for our work and put the lessons learned and best
practices into action by integrating them into our programs. EGPAF has several
studies and evaluations underway, so the focus of the wor
k will be informed by
the skills and interests of the individual fellow selected. In general, the E2P
Research Officer will be responsible for providing technical support services
in areas of study/evaluation design, and may work on project reporting,
documentation of best practices and learning across the program, and ensuring
effective and efficient program delivery. The E2P Research Officer will also be
responsible for identification, documentation, and dissemination of best
practices and preparing conference abstracts, manuscripts, media briefs, and
articles. Previous Global Health Corps (GHC) accomplishments of EGPAF’s past
GHC Fellows include leading a research study and being an author on the
published manuscript, attending the International AIDS Society conference to
present on EGPAF’s work, and acting as project lead for a project focused on providing
technical assistance to community-based organizations in Malawi.
Responsibilities:
Research Support
(75%)
- Contribute
to the development and implementation of the Foundation’s research agenda - Contribute
to data collection, monitoring, and analysis - Provide
feedback on data to supported sites and assist site-level staff with how
to use data for program planning and quality improvement, including
presenting data dashboards and graphics to illustrate results and trends - Participate
in data quality assessments, feedback and improvement activities for
health facilities and/or local community-based organizations - Support
the analysis and reporting of data for Malawi’s Ministry of Health, EGPAF,
and donor use - Collaborate
across the M&E and Program teams to translate evaluation into
programmatic improvements - Support
all aspects of EGPAF’s research studies, from idea conception, literature
review, protocol development, personnel training, development of data
collection instruments, study implementation, and data collection and
management - Support
the development of research protocols, proposals, grants, and other
requests for funding related to HIV clinical, implementation, or program
effectiveness - Provide
support to the Malawi team with the logistical aspects of implementation
of research protocols, including human subjects issues, IRB applications,
development of study procedures, study conduct, and data collection - Assist
with the preparation and coordination of regulatory standards - Help
ensure the highest quality scientific, ethical, and regulatory standards
for all research activities - Participate
in preparation of study reports, abstracts, and manuscripts
Documentation
and Communication of Best Practices and Lessons Learned (25%)
- Coordinate,
research, write, and edit original content for a variety of donors and
other relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to: key messages,
newsletters (print and electronic), brochures, impact reports, event
collateral, messaging, toolkits, and internal communication - Participate
in the development and/or review of quarterly, semi-annual, and annual
project reports - Develop
an overall and project-specific documentation plan(s) for documentation of
best practices beyond the regular reporting requirements - Document
best practices and lessons learned for internal and external purposes - Develop
blogs on EGPAF Malawi’s work for EGPAF’s external website - Plan,
implement, and oversee EGPAF’s communication activities in order to
increase access and provision of HIV services in EGPAF-supported districts
and the country at large - Propose,
coordinate with co-authors, and write article(s) for EGPAF’s technical
brief, Haba na Haba - Participation
in proposal development as needed

Skills and Experience:

- Bachelor’s
degree in social sciences, demography, project management, monitoring and
evaluation, statistics, or related field* - Preferred:
Master’s degree in public health or related field - Strong
analytical and planning skills, and an understanding of a range of methods
for monitoring, evaluation, and assessment to promote evidence-based
learning* - Creativity
and innovative thinking, with demonstrated analytical skills and attention
to detail* - Demonstrated
ability to design, commission, and manage assessment methodologies and
evaluations* - A
strong quantitative background is essential with experience in data
collection, analysis, management, and presentation* - Proficiency
using statistical software (STATA/SPSS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word,
Excel, Access, PowerPoint) * - Experience
in proposal development and in writing technical reports* - Ability
to work in a team environment, but with self-sufficiency and
self-motivation* - Strong
interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal,
written, listening, presentation, and facilitation* - Ability
to multi-task; flexible and capable of working under pressure and tight
