North Coast-Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society Job Vacancy in Canada for a Fisheries Biologist

Organization: North Coast-Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society Location: Prince Rupert, British Columbia

The Fisheries Biologist will provide technical leadership, advice and coordination to the Stewardship Society’s numerous fisheries initiatives to ensure they produce value-added benefits to the First Nations of the North Coast and Lower Skeena River. The successful candidate must demonstrate education, knowledge and experience related to the following:

Key Activities:
• Work with First Nation fisheries personnel to identify and implement key management and research priorities;
• Assist in the development of fisheries policy recommendations for consideration by First Nations governments;
• Represent the North Coast and Lower Skeena First Nations and their fisheries interests at various fisheries management and research forums;
• Assist North Coast and Lower Skeena First Nations to develop and enhance their fisheries management capacity;
• Provide technical support to various resource planning initiatives;
• Develop proposals and complete technical and other reporting.

Required Skills and Knowledge
• Minimum Bachelors degree in or related to fisheries biology, resource management and/or other relevant environmental discipline and worked at least 5 years in a related field;
• Excellent written an verbal communication skills;
• Ability to focus and to develop clear and achievable objectives for tasks and projects;
• Demonstrated ability to see tasks and projects through from the idea stage to completion;
• Knowledge of Federal and Provincial management of fisheries resources;
• Able to work within and positively contribute to a dynamic team environment;
• Demonstrated understanding of key fisheries interests of First Nations and capable of developing innovative and effective approaches to pursuing them.

This is a full time paid position. Compensation will be negotiated with successful candidate based on qualifications. This position will be based in Prince Rupert, BC.
