The p.i.n.e. project is seeking Volunteers for our 2012 winter programs.

WHO WE ARE:
The Primitive Integrated Naturalist Education (P.I.N.E.) Project is a registered charity created to bring the wonders of the natural world back to the urban jungle. P.I.N.E.’s mission is to inspire healthy, lifelong connections between people and nature through outdoor-based learning and play.

This winter p.i.n.e. will be offering after school programs, in school programs, and programs for homeschooled children, as well as hosting a monthly tracking club and various skills-based workshops for adults and families. There are volunteer opportunities with all of our programs and part time paid positions available for the following 2.

After School Program – Run Wild girls
The after school program is held 4 – 6pm on Tuesdays for young girls (ages 6-9). With the Run Wild girls staff and kids will build forts, track wildlife, learn how to build and tend fires, and experience the joys of nature through the colder months. Expect lots of game playing and song singing!

After School Program – Run Wild boys
This program is held concurrent with the Run Wild girls. The boys (ages 6-9) will build forts and track, they love to carve and work with wood. There will be many fires and scavenger hunts. All with the underlying goal of providing safe fun opportunities for these children to spend time in and learn from the natural world.

Firey Foxes- Home school program
The Firey Foxes is part of p.i.n.e.’s community outdoor school education and will run Tuesdays 9-1pm. The kids, ages 7-10, have graduated from the youngest program and are moving from being adventurers in nature to being creators and builders. The Firey Foxes will build forts and tend fires. They will constructs tools and make crafts out of natural materials. They will also play games and sing songs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in providing positive learning and recreational experiences for children and youth ages 0-13 and their parents.
• Assist in the supervision of educational and recreational activities.
• Assist P.I.N.E. Project Instructors with program set-up and delivery.
• Be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be available for at least one program session for the full 10 weeks, including 30 min of preparation/organization time at the beginning and end of each program.
• Be available to participate in a mandatory volunteer training session on [January 8, 2012.
• Participate in a seasonal celebration night towards the end of the programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Staff must:
• Be enthusiastic, and flexible
• Have experience working with children
• Be able and willing to work as part of a team
• Have good communication, time management, and organizational skills
• Identify with the P.I.N.E. Project’s mission statement and core values
• Have a desire to further their own naturalist/primitive skills, mentoring techniques, and/or nature connection through professional development opportunities with PINE staff members.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or interest in the following areas:
• Outdoor and environmental education
• The arts, theatre, music
• Naturalist experience and knowledge
• Survival skills, wilderness experience
• Working in camp settings
