Division has is an immediate opening for an editor.

The successful candidate
must have an advanced academic degree, at least five years of experience in
structural and substantive book editing, and be able to handle multiple
projects in a range of disciplines. He or she must be analytical in identifying
problems and creative in suggesting solutions, skilled in language and logic, have
a sense of what makes a book work, and know how to communicate with authors. He
or she must also be flexible, professional, well organized, confident, and able
to work to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

Responsibilities will
include:

– Project and author
management
– Editing (copy, structural, and substantive)
– Fact- and reference-checking
– Some proofreading
– Some photo research
– Writing cover copy
– Some developmental work, if required.

In general, the editor will
work as part of a team with the managing editor and the acquisitions and
developmental editors. Good computer skills and the ability to edit on screen
are essential.
