Green Thumbs Growing Kids Fundraising Consultant Job Vacancy in Toronto, Ontario


Green Thumbs Growing Kids works with urban children, youth and their families
to learn about, grow and prepare fresh foods, cultivated in an environmentally
sustainable manner. We offer hands-on programs at four school gardens and two
City of Toronto sites in east downtown Toronto. Green Thumbs Growing Kids is a
registered charity.

Position Overview
The Fundraising Consultant works with the Green Thumbs Growing Kids board of
directors and staff to develop a fundraising strategy for the organization,
provides guidance and hands-on training to our fundraising committee to carry
out the strategy, and assists staff with developing systems for the collection
of data related to donors and funding agencies.
The Fundraising Consultant reports to the Operations Manager and works with
other staff as appropriate.

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities

Task 1: Develop fundraising goals and strategy
• Establish fundraising goals, in consultation with fundraising committee of
the board of directors
• Develop a short and long-term fundraising strategy for the organization which
builds on the skills and interests of directors, staff and volunteers
• Develop a roles and responsibilities document for a future Director of
Development position, or future Fundraising Consultant contract.

Task 2: Develop fundraising capacity of directors and staff
• Provide guidance and hands-on training for directors and staff on researching
and approaching individual donors, family foundations, corporations, large
foundations, and government agencies for donations and grants
• Provide samples of fundraising letters, brochures, etc.

Task 3: Establish systems for data collection and communications
• Work with the Operations Manager to establish systems for data collection on
donors and prospective donors
• Work with the Operations Manager on the development and implementation of
effective communications with donors
• Establish a schedule for communications with donors and prospective donors

Skills and/or Qualifications Required
• Experience working, interning or volunteering in the non-profit sector
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills
• Proven ability to work with volunteers and donors
• Experience working with organizations of similar size and stage of
development
• Proven ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines

• Experience in event organizing an asset
• Experience in working with schools an asset
• Commitment to environmental sustainability, food security or transformative
education is an asset
• Knowledge of and experience with gardening an asset

Education: Post-secondary qualifications in Fundraising & Volunteer
Management an asset

IT: Experience with MS-Office, Constant Contact, ePhilanthropy, and social
media
Knowledge and ability to create and maintain donor databases such as the
Raisers Edge an asset
