Wheelbarrow Farm Organic Farm Apprentice Job Vacancy in Uxbridge, Ontario (1 hour from Toronto)

If you are interested in learning about organic farming, raising animals, or
experiencing the rural life, then a summer apprenticeship might be right for
you.

The apprenticeship runs April-October during which time you will learn every
aspect of running a small scale (4 acres) market garden. This includes
planning, planting, maintenance, harvesting, marketing as well as value-added
products. We also have poultry and pigs on the farm. There will be various
building projects including a cabin and an outdoor solar showerhouse and
washroom.

During the apprenticeship I supply you with:
• Room and board. A room in the house and 3 square meals a day.
• Land. We provide garden space to grow and sell your own vegetables or simply
experiment.
• $250/month plus $300 year end bonus.
• Education. Learn about the many aspects of farming: from vegetable production
to marketing. We will take the time to make every activity an educational
experience.
• Self directed projects. We provide the space and resources for interns to
take on self directed projects.
• We are members of CRAFT. Apprentices will participate in the monthly CRAFT
workshop.
• We have a relationship with the Fleming College Sustainable Agriculture
program and you will get to work with some of the students in that program.
• One week vacation during the growing season

What we expect of interns
• 5.5 days of work per week. 8:30am-5:30pm. (8:30am-12pm on the half day)
• shared cooking and cleaning responsibilities
• experience is not as important as enthusiasm and a positive attitude
• Teamwork and communication skills

Wheelbarrow Farm is located on a beautiful piece of land just north of
Uxbridge. We are close to Toronto and Lake Simcoe. We have great swimming
close-by, some nice small towns to visit as well as biking and hiking trails.
There will be 6-8 other people on the farm this summer between myself, staff,
apprentices and WWOOFers. We even have a jam room for those who are musically
inclined.

How to apply

Please send a resume as well as a cover letter explaining why you would like to
