The Donalda Golf & Country Club, established
in 1960, is one of Canada’s most distinguished, private family clubs with
valued traditions and prestige. We combine a high standard of social, athletic
and dining facilities with uncompromising service to our members. We are
located in Don Mills and the club is easily accessible by both bus and subway
and only five minutes from Highway 401/404. This year round multi- activity
facility is tucked away on a 200-acre ravine property – a quiet enclave of lush
gardens, distinguished by its charming clubhouse and its beautifully landscaped
and spacious grounds set in the Don Valley. The Club offers golf, tennis, squash,
fitness, curling and social activities to its Members.
We possess a strong senior management team and a solid foundation of staff to

Our Golf Course and Grounds manager is seeking a motivated and team oriented
individual to join his team as an Assistant Gardener. This is a full-time
seasonal position starting April 1, 2013 to mid-November 2013 (weather
dependent), six days a week (Monday-Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm and one weekend
morning 6:00 am to 10:00 am).
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision and direction of the Head Gardener, the assistant
gardener will perform his/her duties to enhance the quality and maintain the
flower beds at Donalda Golf & Country Club including areas in the Golf
Course, Clubhouse, naturalized areas on the course, etc. The incumbent is
expected to have an interest in gardening and knowledge related to the trade
including familiarity of common plants, weeds, shrubs, annuals, perennials,
etc.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Works closely with the Head Gardener to ensure all plants at Donalda Golf
& Country Club are well maintained
– Performs routine duties to maintain the plant life at Donalda Golf &
Country Club including watering, weeding, trimming, applying fertilizer and
pesticides when required, etc. to ensure the plants in the club meets Donalda
Golf & Country Club’s standard
– Assist in the creation of new gardens to enhance the appearance of Donalda
Golf & Country Club by planting new greenery including flowers, trees, etc.
– Frequently monitor the health of the gardens at Donald Club to ensure the
plants are healthy at all time
– May be required to address member questions in the area of gardening
– Perform a variety of different duties as assigned by the Head gardener
throughout the year in different seasons
– Provide assistance to greens staff when required and build a good working
relationship within the grounds department
– Assist Head gardener in preparing garden beds for the planting of annuals
– Perform maintenance duties after snow melts in winter and prepares new garden
for the season
– Perform any additional duties as specified by the Head Gardener
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/ QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
– Completion of High School Education (Grade 12) or equivalent is required
– Post-Secondary Education in horticulture is considered a strong asset and
preferred
– Practical Gardening experience is required
– Must be comfortable working outdoors for long periods of time
– Knowledge of the principles surrounding gardening is an asset
– Must be able to perform lifting and mild strenuous activity
– Able to work shifts – days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
– Punctual and reliable
– Fluent in English (Oral & Written)
CERTIFICATES, LISCENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record is required
