Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (P.O.W.E.R.) is a
membership driven, not-for-profit community organization that strives
to play a major protective environmental role within our community and
beyond.

vectorIAS (vek-TAWR-ee-

us) is a collaborative Halton- and Peel-based
action and awareness initiative focused on Invasive Alien Species. The
vectorIAS project is in need of a part time Program Coordinator to
assist with project coordination and implementation.

Under the supervision of the Program Director, with support from a
Program Assistant, and in collaboration with community partners and
volunteers, the vectorIAS Program Coordinator will organize and
implement invasive species training, mapping, monitoring and removal
activities, as well as related community outreach deliverables.

Duties
• Coordinate and implement training, mapping (using EDDmaps Ontario
protocols), monitoring, removal, disposal and outreach activities, in
partnership with a wide variety of community collaborators.
• Schedule, supervise and evaluate vectorIAS program assistant(s).
• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate vectorIAS program
volunteers.
• Maintain good working relationships with other community partners.
• Create and maintain meticulous records for project reporting purposes.
• Other duties as needed, including office administrative tasks.

Qualifications
• Excellent leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills
• Able to work independently and in cooperation with others; enjoy
working with people; friendly, energetic and creative
• Degree or diploma in a related environmental field; knowledge of
Ontario ecology; demonstrated experience/specialization in invasive
species.
• Experience in project implementation, volunteer supervision,
training, invasive species identification, outdoor education and/or
nature interpretation
• Physically able to carry out the duties of the position; capable of
operating related equipment
• Willingness to work outdoors, rain or shine; flexible hours may
include weekends, evenings and holidays
• Ontario driver’s license; must have own vehicle in order to access
sites not serviced by public transportation
• Technological aptitude for and interest in GIS, web content
development and management, social media, and citizen science mobile
apps such as EDDmaps Ontario
• First aid certification and criminal record check required

Anticipated Start Date: March 9, 2015

Pay: $17.00 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
Hours: 24 hrs/week (grant funded contract position, renewable
depending upon funding)
