ACE ASSISTANT—OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM

program needs)
Rate of Pay:
• $21,854 honorarium
Program Summary:
The Bronte Creek Project (BCP) and Trailhead programs are hiring one
(1) ACE Assistant – Outdoor Education for September 2015. Offered by
the Halton District School Board, BCP and Trailhead are taught at an
Environmental High School for Halton Students. Each program is a
semester long 4-credit, inter-disciplinary, leadership program for
approximately 20-25 high school students.
The BCP program teaches grade 11/12 curriculum with a focus on
environmental geography / ecological literacy. The Trailhead program
teaches grade 10 curriculum with a focus on Outdoor/community
leadership and English. The BCP and Trailhead curriculum is a mix of
traditional lectures, hands-on workshops, and outdoor experiential
activities. The class learns group dynamics, leadership skills, and
environmental literacy, in preparation to teach Earthkeepers to
elementary students. Earthkeepers is an overnight, dramatic, ecology
program that teaches kids about ecological systems, and encourages
them to live more lightly on the planet. The semesters include
adventure trips both locally and in Algonquin Park.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide for Instructional Assistance for classroom Teachers
• Facilitate meals in the kitchen, including shopping for supplies
• Assist in the organization of the Earthkeepers program
• Others duties as assigned
Qualifications/Assets:
• Experience in providing Instructional Assistance to Teachers
• Experience in Environmental and Outdoor Education
• Outdoor adventure certification (ORCKA, N.L.S), camp leadership,
Wilderness First Aid/First Responder
• Safe Food Handling certification and tripping experience.
• Experience in food preparation, including vegetarian meals
• A reliable vehicle and valid Driver’s Licence are essential
