Organization: Hop Compost Ltd.
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
We’re Hop, a craft compost company.
We’re seeking a full-time employee to start immediately as Operations Lead in
our upcoming Vancouver facility.
Hours: 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday
Pay: $40,000 salary, with the potential for raises and bonuses
Benefits: Blue Cross, Basic Plan
Perks:
• Ownership in Hop through stock options
• Getting hands-on with Canada’s cleanest fertilizer alternative
• Saving 3,000,000 pounds of food waste from local landfill
As Operations Lead, you will direct the facility construction, technology
installation, and hiring process to launch Hop’s new cleantech compost facility
in Vancouver. Once the operation is live, you’ll be responsible for all aspects
of Hop’s process and product quality.
On a daily basis, your role might include tasks such as: managing the team
members who execute daily production; implementing operating procedures to
advance safety and efficiency; working with our Batchmaker to optimize compost
technology settings; organizing contractors to maintain equipment; and managing
production schedules for sales deliveries.
But being a startup, there’s much more to the role. Hop is an innovative
operation without a precedent, so team members should be comfortable working
with uncertainty, speed, and change. Hours may fluctuate, and Hop team members
are available to work early mornings, nights, weekends as overtime when
necessary. You’ll need to exhibit a passion for teamwork, an eye for detail,
and strong organization. We believe problem solving, creativity, and grit are
the key traits for success as our Operations Lead.
Hop isn’t easy, but it is very rewarding. Ready to forge the future for our
sustainable local food industry? Send us your resume and a cover letter that
answers:
• Can you share a story of when your unique qualities delivered a special
outcome for a team?
• Quickly, what is your favorite brand and why?
• Why do you want to work for Hop?
• What makes you weird?
Applications should be sent to:
info@hopcompost.com
before 5pm PT on October 23, 2015.
We’d like it if you:
• Have some post-secondary education
• Have worked in a startup before
• Have operations management experience
• Value sustainability as much as we do
About Hop
Hop built Canada’s first inner-city compost facility in Calgary. Having
operated since February 2015, Hop is on pace to save two-million pounds of
waste from landfill this year, while saving an estimated ten-million pounds of
greenhouse gas emissions. Our first shipment of organic compost went to Grow
Calgary, Canada’s largest urban farm. Grow Calgary has announced it now expects
to donate crops for 1,125 more meals at the Calgary Food Bank, thanks to
increased yields. The thing that makes Hop different is our cleantech, which
modernizes composting. We create finished organic compost in just 11 days
(instead of about 6 months), our quality control is backed by data every
minute, and the cleantech is odor free so we can operate in urban areas. Our
goal is to create closed loops for regenerative agriculture across Canada, so
waste from food merchants can sustain the local growers that supply them.
