non-profit uses education, action and events to achieve this mission.

HUB’s
first-annual Bike the Night is expected to draw up to 3,000 participants on
bikes for a colourful evening ride on Vancouver streets – without cars. The
event will include a celebration event at the start of the ride route where
participants can enjoy snacks, music, hot chocolate and other free giveaways.
The
aim of this event is to celebrate cycling in a fun and unique way, get more
people on bikes in Metro Vancouver and raise funds for HUB Cycling.
Under
the direction of the Director of Corporate Engagement and Events, the Bike the
Night Ride and Event Manager will be responsible for overseeing event planning
and logistics for Bike the Night.

  • Liaising
    with stakeholders, sponsors and partners
  • Motivating
    volunteers
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee
    logistics for site and route plan, source and gather supplies, liaise with
    permitting and other event partners and sponsors
  • Supervise
    and assist the Bike the Night Volunteer Coordinator in volunteer
    recruitment and scheduling
  • Solicit
    donations of in-kind giveaways, food, drinks for event
  • Ensure
    consistent event safety and risk mitigation measures are undertaken
  • Oversee
    marketing and promotions to ensure 3000 tickets are sold
  • Manage
    content for the event website page
  • Liaise
    with Director of Corporate Engagement and Events on program budget
    management
  • Liaise
    with other HUB Cycling staff as appropriate
  • Liaising
    with permit department on 2016 route and applying for permits for 2017
    event
Qualifications:
  • Event
    planning experience required
  • Must
    work well with deadlines, details and deliverables
  • Creative
    self-starter, able to take initiative and deliver on time
  • Able
    to lead and motivate a team of volunteers
  • Proven
    verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility,
    interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm are key to success in this position
  • Familiarity
    with social media required
  • Familiarity
    with HUB and its programs preferred
  • Love
    of cycling for transportation preferred
Position
Details:
This
position pays $20 per hour. It will be full-time (35 hours per week) for 9
weeks.
This
position is funded through Canada Summer jobs and is open to students
who:
  • Are
    under 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Were
    registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
  • Intend
    to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
  • Are
    in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or
    technical program
  • Are
    Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee
    protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection
    Act
  • Are
    legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial /
    territorial legislation and regulations
