Position:
An Island Planner is
required in our Salt Spring Island office. Reporting to the Regional Planning
Manager on Salt Spring Island, the Island Planner is responsible for management
and implementation of various projects and occasional processing of complex
development applications. The Island Planner will draw upon their comprehensive
knowledge and experience applying planning legislation, policies, techniques,
applicable bylaws, regulations, agreements, planning theory and practice to
assist elected official achieve their land use strategies and goals. The Island
Planner will liaison with various agencies and the public, provide leadership
and direction to junior planners, and act in a senior role if and when
required. The Islands Trust may consider workplace flexibility to the
successful candidate.
Qualifications
and Experience:
The successful
applicant is requiredto have a graduate degree in land use planning or another
relevant field such as geography or environmental science; and at least five
(5) years’ experience in the land use planning field with demonstrable planning
experience with local government; or, an equivalent combination of education
and experience.
The successful
applicant should demonstrate working knowledge of applicable BC legislation, a
strong understanding and application of sustainable community planning,
experience leading development of, or significant amendments to, OCPs, Land Use
Bylaws, and/or Inter-agency agreements. Preference will be given to those
demonstrating relevant local government planning experience in BC,
demonstration of proficient project management skills, and membership or
eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning
Institute of BC.
