Coordinator is primary person in charge of overseeing our Summer’s Volunteer
programs. Through the summer we have approximately twenty volunteers who are at
camp to supplement our program, facilities, and food services staff. The
Volunteer Coordinator li
aises with the mangers of those three areas leading up
to summer to assess needs for volunteers for particular projects or
re-occurring support and then design a schedule for volunteers around those
needs. The Volunteer Coordinator will participate in the general Pre-Camp
Training for Program Staff, but will also conduct their own day of training
with summer volunteers. Given that all staff and campers stay onsite at the
Evans Lake Forest Education Centre while camp is in session, the action never
stops and, accordingly, applicants should enjoy working in ever-changing and dynamic
work environments. Very strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a
must.
and Duties:
- Liaise
with Facilities, Food Services, and Program Managers to create project
schedule for summer - Organize
and deliver a three-day volunteer training session - Lead
volunteers Summer projects - Regular
liaising with Manager to evaluate Volunteers support - Organize
volunteer team to host day-camp groups - Provide
overall support for the Summer Camp program - Assist
with camper and luggage transport from pick up/drop off points - Track
expenses within a Volunteer budget and prepare periodic expense reports - Compile
End of Summer Report. A template for this report is available
- Mid-June
through late August, 2016 (date to be confirmed)
- Compliance
with the society’s policies and procedures contained in the Staff, Human
Resources (HR), and Emergency Procedures Manuals. Orientation to these
procedures will occur during Staff Training - Report
safety deficiencies and concerns to Facilities Manager, or (if suitable)
during daily staff meeting
and Evaluation
- Volunteer
Coordinator report directly to the Program Manager - A
goal-setting process will be initiated at the beginning of the season by
the Program Manager, and to be followed up on with two check-ins
throughout the summer - A
formal end of season evaluation with Senior Program staff will occur - Continuous
feedback and communication amongst staff members is encouraged
Certifications & Experience
- First
Aid Certificate (at minimum 8-hour basic certificate) - Additional
certifications and licenses are considered to be assets. Examples include:
Class 4 & 5 Driver’s License, certifications in paddling,
rock-climbing, and outdoor recreation & leadership - Educational
background with special relevance include: Forestry, Environmental
Sciences, Outdoor Recreation, Education
of Compensation will be discussed during the interview phase of recruitment.
