Responsible for ensuring the successful preservation and restoration of a
unique 900+ acre site in one of the fastest growing areas of the country, the
rare Charitable Research Reserve is an urban land trust and environmental
institute situated in the Waterloo Region of Southwestern Ontario.

Artefacts found on the property go back more than 10,500 years. The rare
Charitable Research Reserve acknowledges the Chonnonton people (“people of the
deer”) on whose traditional territory we live and work and offers respect to
our Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Métis neighbours as we strengthen our relationships
with them. We also look to the future in our relationships with Indigenous
peoples. We value Indigenous traditional knowledge and worldviews and look
forward to continue to integrate this into our organization and unique method
of conservation. Called the rare Chain of Learning, we undertake research to
further the science that will result in best practices, train the next
generation of conservationists and create an entire community of support for
them and for conservation goals.

We are currently reaching out to active and prospective constituents and the
community to inform them of our goals and specifically of our growing regional
land trust initiative raresites and inviting them to become more engaged in our
work. To that end we are seeking individuals who will work hard to take our
message to the public through an outreach project.

The successful candidate will report to the Engagement Organizer Supervisor and
work closely with the Gosling Engagement Coordinator, the Development and
Communications Officer and Administrative Coordinator to implement the outreach
project for the rare Charitable Research Reserve.

Key Responsibilities
• Communicate with donors, volunteers and community partners about ongoing
activities and new developments at rare, while encouraging them to donate funds
and further engagement by taking a pledge to Turn the Map Green in support of
the work of rare
• Canvass the rare trails and strategically-selected neighborhoods and events
to encourage individuals take the pledge to Turn the Map Green in support of
rare
• Keep accurate and detailed records
• Assist with data collection and management as required
• Support staff in engaging and training volunteers
• Other duties as required

Skills & Requirements

Successful candidates will have some combination of the following:
• A passion for the environment and a broad understanding of the goals of the
land trust movement;
• Familiarity with Indigenous knowledge and worldviews is considered a strong
asset;
• Ability to work evenings & some weekends;
• Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license;
• Ability to stand and walk for moderately long periods of time;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• Strong customer service, sales and/or public relations experience;
• Strong oral and writing skills;
• Experience in using CRM or related software;
• Attention to detail;
• An interest in learning more about – and contributing to – environmental
organizations and project/campaign development;
• A relevant educational background, such as humanities, English, political
science, economics, sociology, environmental studies, geography, urban
planning, etc.;
• Experience working for not-for-profit organizations or relevant areas of
work; and
