University of Essex Hotel General Manager Job Vacancy in Essex

HOTEL GENERAL MANAGER
Wivenhoe House / The Edge Hotel School
This is a unique opportunity to create a new innovative hotel brand as the home of The Edge Hotel School. It will be the first of its kind where the very best in hospitality education will be combined with a commercially vibrant hotel to develop the hotel managers of the future.

Our objective is for the School to be a specialist “conservatoire” for the hospitality industry, providing the highest levels of training and education in a world class facility located in the newly refurbished Wivenhoe House.

Wivenhoe House, an elegant 18th Century Grade II* Listed Hotel is re-opening in June 2012 after a £9m redevelopment and will feature period suites and rooms, a new garden wing, a signature restaurant for more formal dining, a brasserie for informal dining, and meeting rooms, all designed to provide the best of the quintessential modern country house experience with an intriguing edge.

The Hotel General Manager will have overall responsibility for all of the activities and services within the hotel under the auspices of The Edge Hotel School and the Wivenhoe House name and brand. He/she will have operational control to ensure the efficient and effective management of the hotel to the satisfaction of the guests, and oversight of the deployment of the students in cooperation with the Director of Studies for the learning provision. The General Manager will also liaise with the Director of Studies with regard to the management of the quality assurance processes, and the academic standards delivered, achieved and maintained within the hotel school. While taking a strategic overview and planning ahead to ensure the delivery of the commercial and educational objectives the GM must also set the highest professional example for staff and students, to deliver a standard of service and presentation that meets guests’ needs and expectations.

With a strong professional background in quality hotel operations and a sustained reputation for excellence, a commitment to vocational education and work based learning is also essential. Proven ability to lead, manage and develop staff at all levels, together with the ability to identify and respond to issues with flexible, effective and innovative solutions are key requirements of the job.

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
Closing date for applications: 30 June 2011

The successful candidate will be employed by WHH Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Essex.
