Description of study area

The research work is based on health implication of
soil erosion in Sapele metropolis, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sapele which is today one of the most important industrial port town in the
western region of Nigeria was a small village belonging to the people of  Okpe in Urhobo. It is situated at the left
bank of the Ethiope River.

The population of the people in Sapele metropolis
according to 2006 population census was 142,052. The occupation of the people
in Sapele is majorly fishing and farming. The religious beliefs of the people
are majorly traditional religion though some are into the Christian religion.
Sapele Local Government Area has its headquarters at Sapele,
a cosmopolitan town and an important seaport for trade in timber related
products. It is one of the oil producing areas of the state. Major communities
include Sapele, Amukpe, Elume, Oghedi, Ughorhen and Ikeresian.
