Background:
The Ontario Council for International Cooperation
(OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-b

ased international development and
global education organizations and individual associate members working globally
for social justice.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Public
Engagement (PE) Coordinator will work closely with OCIC staff and volunteers,
members, key stakeholders and funders in achieving the Councils’ collective
goals, and furthering its vision.
Key program activities include but are not limited
to:
  • Providing leadership in the collaborative
    development of an organizational Theory of Change for public engagement
  • Coordinating all aspects of an international
    field visit to document members’ stories of change for International
    Development Week (IDW) physical and virtual exhibits
  • Coordinating all aspects of OCIC’s annual IDW
    Global Changemaker youth awards and profiles, and IDW program activities
  • Assisting in convening periodic dialogues,
    consultations and information sessions with multiple key stakeholders
  • Assisting in researching, outreaching to, and
    meeting with select municipalities, universities and colleges across
    Ontario to initiate relationships and exchange information.
  • Developing and testing surveys and interview
    schedules to facilitate effective stakeholder needs assessment and
    developing pilot collaborative initiatives with interested stakeholders
  • Supporting members in convening Networking
    Groups and capacity building events on priority topics
  • Helping to create, implement, analyze and
    disseminate results of periodic surveys of Council members
  • Assisting in organizing and convening OCIC’s
    Annual General Meeting & Symposium
In addition to the activities noted, the PE
Coordinator is responsible for managing the implementation, ensuring the
evaluation, and reporting on the results of each of the Council’s PE programs
in the following ways:
Implementation
  • Encouraging and facilitating broad-based and
    meaningful participation of members and volunteers in OCIC PE activities,
    as appropriate
  • Ensuring gender equality and anti-oppression
    themes and results are integrated into the Councils’ communications
    activities as outlined in OCIC funding agreements and policies
  • Managing and monitoring PE budget items with
    prudence
  • Other duties, as assigned
Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Ensuring processes are undertaken to assess
    the effectiveness of OCIC PE activities
  • Synthesizing data, preparing qualitative,
    quantitative and financial reporting items, and providing recommendations
    for adjustments to programs to the Executive Director on a bi-monthly
    basis
  • Documenting and reporting good practices and
    lessons learned to the Executive Director and relevant Board Committees on
    a bi-annual basis
Reporting on Results
  • Ensuring PE activities are completed according
    to the descriptions, budget and timeline established in the Councils’
    funding agreements and annual work plan, approved by the Board of
    Directors, and monitored by the Executive Director
  • Capturing quantitative data on an ongoing
    basis, using event registration software, participant lists, attendance
    sheets, social media account analysis, and website analytics, which feed
    into a master Event Tracking Sheet
  • Capturing qualitative data through a
    combination of activity-specific evaluation forms, surveys, and/or
    Committee evaluation meetings and informal discussion
  • Providing quarterly quantitative, qualitative
    and financial reports for PE activities
Organizational Development / Support
The PE Coordinator is also responsible for:
  • Actively participating in staff meetings and
    providing input towards the development of new policies to direct
    operational practice, as required
  • Providing administrative support to the
    Executive Director, Board of Directors and its Committees, as requested
  • Representing OCIC, the Executive Director,
    Board of Directors and its Committees at events or external meetings, when
    requested
  • Responding to general telephone and email
    inquiries
  • Other duties, as assigned
Desired Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Post-secondary education in adult education,
    international/community development or related fields and/or the
    equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience or proven interest in international
    cooperation, humanitarian and/or public engagement work
  • Nuanced understanding of good practices in
    public engagement on global poverty issues, including Theory of Change
  • Demonstrated experience with program planning,
    development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • A minimum three years related experience
  • Team player with a ready sense of humour and
    capacity to work in close proximity to others
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
    with minimal supervision to accomplish high-profile tasks and to meet
    multiple and concurrent deadlines
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
    with diverse audiences
  • Clear, engaging and effective written and oral
    communications skills
  • Knowledge and usage of social media platforms
  • Knowledge of or experience working within the
    non-profit sector
  • PC proficiency with MS Office. Knowledge of In
    Design, Photoshop is an asset.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and discretion
  • Innovative spirit, with interest in being part
    of a thriving social change community
  • Detail oriented, with experience managing
    logistics
  • Experience working with funders, such as the
    Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD)
  • Understanding of Results Based Management
    (RBM) (desirable)
