ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under the overall
supervision of the Head of Huye sub-office, the incumbent shall perform the
following duties:
- Drive
office vehicle for the transport of authorised personnel on official
assignments countrywide;
- Deliver
and collect mails, documents and other items;
- Meet
official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs
formalities as required;
- Check
on a daily basis the serviceability of all communications equipment,
first aid kits, fire extinguishers, toolkits, vehicle documents and any
other equipment that may be fitted in the vehicle and report immediately
if any equipment is damaged or missing;
- Initiate
requisitions for fuel, maintenance of vehicle and insurance;
- Responsible
for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil,
water, battery, brakes, tires etc… perform minor repairs and arrange for
other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept cleanand tidy at all
times;
- Fill
in the log book daily and maintain registry of official trips, daily
mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing and prepare related
reports on fuel;
- Identify
any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the
supervisor;
- Ensure
that the steps required by rules and regulations are followed in case of
involvement in accident;
- Outside
driving duties, perform basic office related tasks such as filing,
photocopying and maintaining stores when required including
delivery/collection of various items, mailing service and payment of
office telephone and other bills to ensure administrative support to
clients
- Perform
any other duties as requested by the Supervisor, as and when required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATION
Education:
• A minimum of
three years of post-primary education with a valid driver’s license for automobiles,
knowledge of the rules of the road and aptitude to make small repairs on
cars.
•Formal drivers
training with a certification to operate assigned vehicle following local
rules and regulations
Experience:
Three or more
years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international
organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record.
Language
Requirements:
• Good knowledge
of written and spoken French or English. The knowledge of both is an added
value. Fluency in Kinyarwanda.
Skills:
•Knowledge of
driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local
roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
• Knowledge of the
vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
•Knowledge of
driving/boat operating rules and regulations whichever applicable
• Knowledge of
safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant
wearable safety devices, etc.).
Desirable
skills:
Experience in
driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and
other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is
desirable.
Added
advantage:
Ability to read
and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic skills to
assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
• Knowledge and
ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
• Ability to
assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
• Ability to
demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility,
courtesy and tact.
