The Women’s Healthy Environments Network is seeking an individual to build
strong programming and expand our reach
The Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN) is looking for a strategic
board member to be part of our volunteer Board of Directors. WHEN is currently
in a pivotal moment; we’re challenging status quo, and preparing to make waves
in the environmental and women’s health space.
Since 1994, WHEN has been educating the general public, media and policy makers
that environmental health is a key determinant of public health, and has
promoted public action for the prevention of environmental health harms. The
successful candidate(s) will provide support and organizational leadership to
the board in the areas of administration, corporate governance, and the
strategic development of new projects. This is a voting position, with the
central task of sharing in the effective implementation of Board decisions.
Key responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
• Participating as a volunteer Director of the Board to provide strategic
guidance and financial governance to the organization
• Thinking strategically, tactically and operationally to ensure effective
development of new programming and fundraising initiatives
• Attending Board meetings (one evening per month at the Centre for Social
Innovation in downtown Toronto) and participate on Board sub-committees
• Be part of committees to carry out tasks set by the board
• Volunteering 10-12 hours per month in the role, including frequent email
communication
• Committing to a two-year term
Qualifications:
• Previous board experience is a must
• Significant knowledge of environmental health issues
• Corporate governance and strategic planning ability
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Collaborative, confident leader with excellent organizational, facilitation
and problem solving skills
