WRA Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is seeking an energetic,
inventive, and multi-faceted full-time Volunteer Director to start the
first week of June, 2014. The Volunteer Director holds a pivotal full
time role in Canada’s second busiest wildlife rescue and
rehabilitation centre. You will be responsible for recruiting,
maintaining, and assessing a volunteer pool of approximately 300
seasonal and year-round volunt

eers. Many of these volunteers have
advanced skills in animal care, administration, education, and public
outreach. Others use the volunteer experience to develop their
training and skills in chosen fields. Our volunteer loyalty is
exceptional, including long-term volunteers with 20+ years of service.

The Volunteer Director will be tasked with the general recruitment,
maintenance and retention of qualified volunteers, some of them with
highly specialized skills and technical background. Duties will
include:
• participation in planning of fundraising and awareness events
• developing and updating policy and training manuals
• orientation and training workshops,
• performance feedback and assessment
• liaising with all departments and scheduling of volunteers
throughout the entire organization
• internal and external marketing for specific jobs, programs, and projects
• retention and motivational tools including Volunteer Appreciation
Week and annual event, a monthly bulletin, and other recognition as
appropriate
• reference letters
• participation in staff meetings and Health & Safety committee meetings.

A full recruitment cycle includes recruitment of seasonal and special
project volunteers, interns, High school work experience participants,
Animal Health Technology and international volunteers. Both on- and
off-site volunteers are managed through online systems. Areas of
recruitment include – but are not limited to – animal care, transport,
duckling sitters, education, garden, helpline, day camps, animal
auxiliary services, and maintenance/special projects. All volunteers
go through a basic orientation as well as specialized training for the
area in which they work.

Suggested Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree, advanced education in organizational development
and management, or equivalent in work experience in a position of
responsibility
• At least 3 years of experience directing a volunteer program
• Experience with Volunteer Impact (V2)
• Fluent in high-level English, both written and verbal
• Comfortable and experienced in developing and delivering training
sessions and manuals
• Exceptional word processing, excel, and PowerPoint skills
• Exceptional time-management and the ability to balance multiple
projects and priorities
• Experience in structuring volunteer support for event management &
delivery – planning, canvassing, marketing, and logistics
• Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
• High EQ and personal authority to motivate volunteers to perform to
a professional standard of excellence and commitment
• Willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
• An understanding of Wildlife Rescue’s mission statement and values
• The ability to work in a very collaborative pro-active environment
with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
• Strong personal and professional ethics, inspiring and mentoring others
• The ability to work with a diverse group of people with a wide
variety of skills, experiences, and expectations
• Experience with large-scale seasonal recruits
• Experience in budgeting and financial management
• Membership to the AVRBC an asset
• Experience with Online Training platforms, audio/video development,
and Photoshop an asset
• CVA designation would also be considered an asset
• Thrive in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
• Knowledge of wildlife rehabilitation and/or the veterinary industry is ideal
• A keen interest in wildlife and nature

WRA Wildlife Rescue Association of BC offers an employee benefit
