Seasonal Full-time Position until Sept. 3, 2011
37.5 hours / week @ $10.25 / hr
Hours are variable with some evening and weekend work.
Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) is a registered charity with two main goals: (1) rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and (2) public education about wildlife issues. Toronto Wildlife Centre’s Wildlife Hotline is the busiest of its kind in North America receiving up to 200 calls per day during spring and summer.
We are seeking assistants to help our Hotline staff with the wide variety of tasks required to meet the needs of the emergency calls centre.
The ideal candidate for this position must be firmly committed to Toronto Wildlife Centre’s goals and beliefs, and must enjoy and feel confident communicating with the public.
Principal duties
• greet visitors at the front desk and admit incoming animals
• transcribe messages on our voice mail system into our Hotline database
• provide wildlife education and respond to wildlife inquiries from people who drop off animals
• ask members of the public for donations for the care of the wild animal they brought to our hospital.
• coordinate pick-ups and rescues of wild animals
• respond to select enquiries from the public on the Wildlife Hotline, as directed by senior staff
• ensure that excellent public service and the highest quality information is provided at all times
• ensure that all work related to the Wildlife Hotline is completed professionally and in a timely fashion
• stay current on issues relating to the Wildlife Hotline
Qualifications
• excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• good logic and problem solving skills
• must be energetic, enthusiastic, and positive
• must enjoy working with people, be able to deal with difficult or upset people
• proven ability to meet time-sensitive demands
• strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task
• excellent computer and keyboarding skills
• open-minded, adaptable, able to evaluate own performance
• must be able to handle high pressure / stressful situations
• have a genuine concern for, and an understanding of, environmental and wildlife issues
• wildlife rehabilitation or wildlife hotline experience ideal but not required
