This
can be done through putting measures in place such as:
i.) Install Security Applications: Reliable
anti-virus should be installed in computers that are used to store patients’
health information. These antivirus should be updated regularly.
ii.) Stay Updated: Health care professionals
should make sure that they and their information storing gadgets stay up to
date. Health information professionals
should have at least a basic knowledge of what is possible and how to protect
patient’s data.
iii.) Toughen up Access Control: Limit
the number of login attempts within a certain time, even with password resets,
because email accounts can be hacked as well. Never send login details by
email, in case an unauthorized user has gained access to the account.
iv.)Tighten
Network Security: Computers used for storing
patients information should be the are set that:
- Logins expire after a short period of
inactivity. - Passwords are changed frequently.
- Passwords are strong and never written down.
- All devices plugged into the network are
scanned for malware each time they are attached.
